CALLUS INDUCTION AND SHOOT REGENERATION FROM SESAME SEEDS

In this work, the responsiveness of several explants of sesame seedlings (Sesamum indicum L.) to the induction of callus and shoot formation is assessed. Sesame is one of the oldest and most out-of-date oilseed crops grown for its edible oil, which is utilized in food preparation and other industrial uses. The seeds are rich in nutrients and have many positive health effects. However, Nigeria's output potential has not yet been completely harnessed. The goal of this study was to create a method for in vitro callus induction (CI) and shoot regeneration from sesame seedling explants. For the in vitro callus induction (CI) and shoot regeneration of the plantlets, the explants were cultured in a base medium containing Murashige and Skoog (MS) supplemented with various concentration ratios of auxins and cytokinines. After the second week of inoculation, callus induction (CI) started to develop. When compared to all other combinations, Kinetin and 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D) were more successful for callus induction (CI) frequencies in all explants, while MS with 0.5ms BAP and 0.75mls NAA showed the greatest number of shoot regenerations.
